BREAKING: Comic Jay Leno rushed to the hospital today, after an accident in his garage. Andovers Jay Leno Is FUNNY on air and off. So to read this story is heartbreaking.

TMZ reports:

Jay Leno is in a burn center after suffering a serious injury to his face … TMZ has learned.
Jay was in the L.A. garage where he stores his cars on Sunday when one of the cars erupted into flames without warning. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … the flames burned the left side of Jay’s face, but thankfully did not penetrate his eye or his ear.

I’ve had the joy to see Jay Leno up close at an intimate, 100 person private event several years ago. It was during the Tonight Show days, when Jay was the host. I attended a radio station event in Los Angeles. Our surprise guest was an HOUR of non stop comedy from Jay Leno himself. He has us rolling on the floor for an hour. He was hysterical, especially when he took questions from the audience. During his one hour plus show, he didn’t curse, or swear ONCE. His entire hour was clean. It was stunning to watch.

Back in the 1980’s I had the privilege to interview Jay Leno on a radio station, here in Boston. I did my share of standup comedy in the 1980’s, so Jay to me, is a hero. Leno, in person is a little more quiet than his on television persona. While we were off the air, I asked him about some his early jokes. He remembered every one of them, clearly, and shared tips on how he set’s up and delivers his material.  Once the on air light is ON, the familiar TV version of Jay, shows up, and entertains every second he’s on.
