“March” is named for the Roman god of war, Mars. This was the time of year to resume military campaigns that had been interrupted by winter.

The most significant event this March is the holiday observed by millions of Catholics around the world known as Easter. Easter is observed on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon on or after March 21.

    Sir Elton Hercules John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947.) Elton is 77, and like Tyler, can’t seem to retire. Today alone, he’s won more awards than my trips to the bathroom.

    John Francis Bongiovi Jr. (born March 2, 1962), known professionally as Jon Bon Jovi. One of the babies of this group, he is 62. He has jokingly said he’s waiting for The Stones to retire, so he can. Even admitting that his voice was broken, he got it fixed, and has a new album coming out this June.

    Quincy Delight Jones Jr. (born March 14, 1933). With a middle name like Delight, how can you not be an icon. He produced the iconic “We Are The World.”

    Kenneth Arnold Chesney (born March 26, 1968) is an American country singer. With a song called, No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem, this guy qualifies as a March icon to me. He loves Boston so much, he actually named his “No Shoes Nation” while playing Gillette.

    Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986) known professionally as Lady Gaga. Gaga blasted on the scene in 2008 and never looked back. On top of her giant hits, her heartwarming collaboration with the late Tony Bennett sealed the deal for me, making her an icon.
