With 28 year old Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes talking retirement, people listen. Retirement is all around us. It seems more and more pros are hanging it up to spend more some with family, their health, or themselves. Some are even rethinking their retirement.
Bruins Jack Edwards Retirement
This week, New England hockey fans as they realized they are about to witness the end of an era. After 19 years, the iconic Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards announced that he will retire from the NESN TV broadcast booth at the end of this season. Fans have been concerned with the change in Edwards delivery this season, wondering if he is going through a health issue. Edwards according to CBSnews.com in his statement said:
I am no longer able to retain the standards I set for myself, to honor the fans, the players, the Bruins organization, and NESN, with the best thet all deserve. After this season, the Bruins along with NESN, will conduct a nationwide search for Jack’s replacement. Those will be big shows to fill. We wish Jack the best of luck.
Tom Brady Rethinking Retirement?
In a head-turning, not again statement, recently Superbowl MVP and future broadcaster, football great Tom Brady threw out a perfectly spiraled curveball. Brady said he’d be open to coming back as a quarterback, for a team who would need him. According to the Athletic.com Tom shared his current thoughts on a podcast called Deep Cuts With Vic Blends:
“I don’t know, I’m always going to be in good shape. I’ll always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like M.J. coming back, I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.” Of course a comment like that would scare the pants of the Fox Sports management, because he’s supposed to be working for them, this fall. Patrick Mahomes Talking Retirement
Could a wonderful trip to a Disney theme park with his family trigger 28 year old Superbowl icon Patrick Mahomes to talk retirement? With three Superbowl rings, in just his 7th NFL season, passing hall of famers in the process, Mahomes has nothing to prove. Add to that, he reportedly made $59.4 million last season alone. Add to that, he’s one of the most sought after sports endorsement figures in modern times. If he keeps performing at that high level, he has many good years ahead. But what about his family? Mahomes and his wife Brittany have two small children under the age of 5. While Patrick Mahomes talking retirement is a ways away, Mahomes shares his thoughts on when, is the right time. According to bleacherreport.com:
“I’ve looked, if I played until Tom [Brady]’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20 years old,” Mahomes told Sean Gregory of Time. “I would love to play that long. At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.”
