‘Walking Dead’ Worcester Filming Comes Alive For Fans
Hey Boston, you had better watch out. The new cool kid in town is out West, as the ‘Walking Dead’ Worcester filming is taking Worcester’s Main Street by storm, or more appropriately, by apocalypse.
Walking Dead: Dead City Films In Worcester
Fans of the original Walking Dead are coming alive (I’m sorry for that) as the spinoff, Walking Dead: Dead City is filming right in Downtown Worcester, Massachusetts on Main Street right now. Fans of the AMC franchise are flocking to see how Hollywood has transformed Worcester’s Main Street into a post apocalyptic New York City. If I got my hometown bearings correct, the filmmakers plopped a fake, Hollywood New York subway right across the street from (the real) Mechanics Hall.
Spectrum News 1 is on the scene talking to excited Dead fans of all ages, who are in fact alive:
“I think it looks amazing, even with the New York subway station across the street,” said another fan. “It looks so realistic.”
The subway station is just one piece of a much larger puzzle turning Worcester into a zombified Big Apple. Little things like street signs were changed, New York City trash bins were spread throughout Main Street, trash and debris were thrown about. To simulate autumn, production crews spent part of the afternoon filling sidewalks with leaves.
‘Walking Dead’ Worcester Filming Is Not The First To Film There
Over the last five plus years, Worcester has become a “mini Hollywood East,” creating the perfect secret spot for many movie companies to film. For example, there was nothing more surprising to see Worcester’s own Elm Park used as a hideaway for Liam Neeson’s character in 2020’s Honest Thief. It was hysterical and fun to see Liam’s high speed chase with cars screeching by St. Vincents Hospital and the DCU Center on Foster Street.
Other movies filmed in Worcester include, Wakanda Forever, The Holdovers and Free Guy.
‘Walking Dead’ The Franchise
