Jon Bon Jovi’s Voice Is Healing, Thanks To His Wife
New Jersey can breathe a collective sign of relief. Jon Bon Jovi’s voice is better, thanks to his high school sweetheart. It also happens to be his wife, Dorothea.
Jon Bon Jovi’s Voice
One year ago last March a shocking video surfaced showing a Bon Jovi concert. We saw Jon on stage rockin’ as great as always. But there was one glaring difference. Jon’s voice was not the same. The raw, smart phone video was recorded from a fan who had noticed that Jon was not hitting his normal notes. His singing was weak as almost as if he was sick. We had NEVER heard Jon Bon Jovi sound like that. The video went viral with many of Jon’s loyal fans asking, what happened to Jon Bon Jovi’s voice?
The next natural question was, why would Jon allow himself to perform in this condition. He is a rock icon and knows the importance of branding and managing an image. A video of Jon struggling on stage was uncharacteristic of this branding genius. Now, the next natural question might be, is he aware of how he sounds? The answer? No.
Jon Bon Jovi’s Wife May Have Saved His Voice
While it’s hard to put our manly egos aside, we should listen to our wives. Insert Jon’s wife Dorothea. According to ultamateclassicrock.com, Jon got maybe the most important advice of his life, from his wife. Jon said the audience loved his performance, but his wife did not:
“And I came off on that night in Nashville, and it was the last of the 15 shows. I was like, ‘That was alright, that was pretty good. It was good. Audience is going crazy. It’s good.’ And the greatest truth teller of them all [my wife] said, ‘It wasn’t good.'”
Jon Bon Jovi’s Voice Was Broken
While age catches up to everyone, it came a little too fast to Jon. Jon’s voice in his own words, was broken. Maybe it was age, or wear and tear, but one thing was for sure: he needed help and fast. It was a devistating blow to the music icon. He sought out a vocal medical expert who basically repaired a damaged vocal cord. Now is on the path of healing. According to people.com:
Bon Jovi said he thankfully was introduced to a surgeon who gave him a “cutting-edge implant to build the cord back up.” Now, he’s still “in the process of healing” over 19 months into rehab.
Richie Sambora
While Jon’s vocal health looks like smoother sailing ahead, when it comes to Richie Sambora rejoining the band, it seems like that ship has sailed. Jon and Richie don’t even talk anymore, according to USA Today:
It seems like while there’s still love there, a little bitterness remains, if you dig into the public comment Jon told USA Today. Reportedly, Richie is part of the upcoming Bon Jovi documentary. But sadly for fans, they don’t appear sitting side by side as bandmates, like the good old days.
“We’re not in contact because he’s not in the organization any longer,” Bon Jovi told the outlet. “Doesn’t mean that there’s not love forever, but it’s 11 years ago that he just didn’t show up anymore.”
