Billy Joel’s 100th Show Set List Surprise
With Billy Joel‘s 100th Show at Madison Square Garden in New York, Billy is always the first to say, “it’s not my final show there ever, just for this residency!” Leave it to the hard working man of the people to remind his people that he’s not going anywhere.
According to MSG.com, Billy says:
“When this franchise run at Madison Square Garden began in January 2014, I said I’d play one show a month ‘as long as the demand continues.’ I never imagined I’d still be playing one show a month 10 years later – it’s a testament to my amazing fans, and the 1.6 million people from around the world who have already been part of this historic residency. If you do the math, Billy will end this iconic run with 150 lifetime shows, 100, for this residency.
He truly is the MSG house band. If you don’t believe me, Google “Billy Joel’s house.”
The Year Of Billy Joel
After an amazing 150 lifetime shows at the Garden, Billy wrapped up show 100 (this residency) last night to an adoring crowd and a bunch of CBS Television cameras. Last nights crowning achievement will be broadcast on CBS next month. Here’s where you can see it:
CBS will broadcast it next month. CBS.com says:
Date: Sunday, April 14th
Time: 9pm to 11pm
Billy Joel’s New Song
One new thing on top of the surprise guest long time fans witnessed was Billy’s new song, “Turn The Lights Back On.” Some may say it’s a song about forgiveness. He even sings that word at the end. But who is Billy asking to forgive him and why? We may never know. Billy himself says the song is about second chances.
Released January 31st, and after 31 years this brand new song was co-written by Joel alongside Freddy Wexler, Arthur Bacon, and Wayne Hector. The song has been well received by critics and fans.
But, even Billy himself is a little surprised. Only hardcore Billy Joel fans know the truth about Billy’s recording. He’s incredibly hard on himself. He didn’t like his own voice. Early on he wanted pop star Adele to sing it, so he would not have to go back into a studio. But that changed after he heard his recording.
In an interview with Sirius XM about the release, he shares a s deep dark secret: “I never liked my own voice. I always wanted to sound like someone else singing. This time I heard the new recording with my own voice on it, and I didn’t hate it.”
Billy Joel Got A Visit From “The Police”
Well in a way, it was a member of the Police. Sting, joined Billy on stage for his 100th Garden Show. Another surprise guest was New Yorker, comedian Jerry Seinfield who introduced a song as you will see below! Now, that show was not a show, about nothing.
