Billy Joel Didn’t Like His Own Voice
In an interview with SiriusXM Satellite Radio about the release, he shares a deep dark secret:
“I never liked my own voice. I always wanted to sound like somebody else singing. This time I heard the recording with my voice on it, I didn’t hate it.”
Billy Wanted Adele To Sing His New Song
Billy was so against getting back into the studio he wanted an other artist to sing his new song. He imagined pop icon Adele singing his new song.

“I thought Adele,” Joel shared. I was hellbent and determined not to [sing it],” he admitted. “That was my whole agenda, was, ‘I don’t care what you do. I’m not doing this.”
Why Did Billy Joel Stop Recording?
The last time Billy Joel had a new song was 1993. He felt his album River Of Dreams didn’t do what he thought it would do.

“The thing was, I put a lot of work into River of Dreams and it was as if the business had left me behind because there are substantial songs on that album that never went anywhere.” “So I said, ‘What’s the point of putting myself through writing and recording if it doesn’t mean what it’s supposed to mean out there in the world?’

Billy’s new song “Turn The Lights Back On” sings about redemption and a second try. Near the end of the song, he even asks for forgiveness. Despite his enormous talent, and success, it’s no secret that Billy’s personal life was full of emotional, drinking and marriage problems. But it seems that all of that is behind him. According to Hollywoodlife.com, Billy is happily married to his fourth wife, former Morgan Stanley executive Alexis Roderick. She will on hand for Billy’s final, 150th show at Madison Square Garden this July.
Billy released “Turn The Lights Back On” on January 31st, the day before ex-wife Christy Brinkley’s birthday, the mother of his daughter Alexa. Was he asking Brinkley’s forgiveness?
