Tony Award Winner Michael Jackson Musical Set To Wow Boston
The True King Of Pop
When you say the name Michael Jackson, what comes to mind is conflict. You can’t help but try, (for me) to push away the news headlines, allegations, plastic surgeries and controversaries that has plagued his life, before and after death. If you can push that data to one side for a moment, you then remember the artist. You begin to hear hit after hit in your head. Our eyes remember the amazing, record breaking movie style videos, like Thriller, which changed the course of music videos. Then of course, before Thriller, was Billie Jean.
Michael Jackson’s Defining Moment
Most remember the time. (Get that reference?) It was May 16, 1983. The Jacksons were invited to perform on The Motown 25 Yesterday and Today, broadcast. By this time, Michael was clearly established as a successful solo artist, with Billie Jean, released earlier in the year, to massive success. But, MJ, a shrew businessman and performer had one more trick up his sleeve, or glove.
He would only agree to appear on the special if he was allowed to perform a solo. What happened next took the WORLD by storm, and none of us saw it coming, except Michael. See, the Billie Jean video was released in March of that year. So we saw Michael’s wonderful, but usual moves.
On May 16, 1983, Michael Jackson defined himself as the King of Pop, in front of a studio and a worldwide television audience to see.
It was the first time we saw The Moonwalk, a custom created dance, during his astounding performance of Billie Jean. We all sat there in amazement. He’s walking forward, but MOVING backward. Maybe he IS from outer space. It was a entertainment moment that is burnt in our memories forever.
