Tom Bergeron Says BETRAYAL Is Why He Left DWTS
When familiar Haverhill native and veteran TV host Tom Bergeron says BETRAYAL, people stand up and take notice.
After all of those wonderful years on family type shows, did Hollywood’s drama catch up to our favorite TV neighbor?
Meet Haverhill’s Tom Bergeron
Those like me that grew up here watched in excitement and pride as Tom’s career took off. From his humble beginnings on hometown radio WBZ-1030 and then WBZ-TV as the “lineup” guy on TV, Tom’s trajectory beamed him into Hollywood as the perfect next generation of game show hosts. He was the right fit for mainstream family show’s like America’s Funniest Home Videos and The Hollywood Squares. In 2005, he got in a way, his own star, being named host of the iconic dance show, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. As Tom cut out his own niche as the new good guy next door, TV host, he was perfect for the Disney owned show for an amazing TWENTY EIGHT seasons. But, wait, how could it end?
Tom Bergeron Says BETRAYAL
According to Eonline.com the s#%t hit the dancefloor. In the Summer of 2019, the political climate heated to a full boil. DWTS casting alerted Tom that the show was joining in the fun.
Tom met with show executives rejecting the casting of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer as a dancer for the upcoming season. Tom felt that the show was an escape from politics, and that the audience would reject it. The host says it has nothing to do with Spicer’s party, saying felt this way about ANY politics on the show. The show executives agreed with Tom at their lunch. But in true Hollywood fashion they went behind Tom’s back and cast Spicer.
That’s what Tom calls the betrayal:
So when Sean’s casting was announced on Good Morning America, Tom remembered, “My phone started blowing up. At that moment I knew, this was probably my last season. Because of that one betrayal.
After fifteen years, Tom and the show parted ways.
While current new hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough learn not to yell into a microphone, not to read the teleprompter TOO fast, and not to fake excitement, they probably will do ok. But Bergeron’s smooth hosting is missed. We will stick with our homeboy. Something tells me he’ll be back on our TV soon. Talented people always land sunny-side up.
