Are We Tipping TOO Much?

Tps

Are we tipping TOO much? Wow, I thought I was the only one thinking this. Am I cheap, insensitive? What's wrong with me? If you're thinking the same thing, you may be thinking like many others.

Well according to a new study and thanks to technology, the new over-the-top tip culture is having many think twice about tipping on every transaction. (I came up with the phrase: "tip culture.")

Who Put The IPAD In Charge Of Tips?

It started happening a few years ago. Maybe I'm weird, but I remember this event like it was yesterday.

I walked into my our favorite neighborhood pizza place to pick up our favorite pizza: hamburger and onion, by the way. When I went to pay, I noticed a new system of payment. Rather than handing my card to pay, they asked to insert it into an IPAD. Then what happened next was a first. The IPAD asked for a tip, and offered options on how much. Of course I said to myself, why tip when I'm doing the driving to pick it up? So I declined.

Overtime, every transaction these days are now made on an IPAD using the same system. With inflation, service workers in restaurants have it harder than ever. So, yes I will add a tip, even though I am my own pizza delivery man. I will be honest. When I leave the tip and I get a big "Thank you!" from the 17 year old at her first job, it feels good. I know, I'm such a hero leaving that extra buck. But it feels good.

The Survey Says

According to playusa.com:

In the poll of more than 1,000 people, conducted by PlayUSA, researchers found that 56 percent feel pressure to tip when the option pops up on a screen during cashless checkout. That’s a small increase over the 54 percent who said the same in PlayUSA’s 2022 survey

So it seems if you're feeling the pressure, it's normal. But, I have found, when you give more than you get, what you WANT, really begins to show up. Now that's a good tip.

Feeling lucky? Are you a gambler? Maybe you want to take a ride to your local casino. Here in Massachusetts there are a few like Encore Boston Harbor, Plainridge Park and MGM Springfield where you can press your luck. But maybe you don’t want to take a ride several miles to win some money. The key to winning some serious cash is right down the street at your local convenience store.

Scratch tickets are all the rage here in Massachusetts. Back in 2020, we spent the most money out of any state in the country on lottery tickets. The average lottery player in Massachusetts spent about $1000 annually on tickets. That’s about $300 more than any state. What if you knew going into that store which lottery ticket was going to win? That may take the fun out of gambling but you’d be more apt to buy said ticket correct? Well that answer is right at the click of a button. The Massachusetts state lottery has a website where they literally put the odds of winning on each ticket. Knowing this information should make you better informed before buying your next ticket. That is, if you want to win.

They also have a section that tells you which tickets have their top prizes already claimed. So that means, it also tells you which prizes are still available. This should make your next scratch ticket purchase that much easier. So not only have we helped you out in finding which scratch tickets have the best odds of winning but we're also helping you by letting you know which ones have the biggest amount of prizes still available. Choose wisely!

Oh and as always, we'll never ask you for a cut WHEN you win (LOL). May the odds forever be in your favor! Good luck.
