With the bad week that Jimmy Fallon had, some are asking, is Fallon out, and Conan IN? Although it would seem that the Brookline native, is happy with his multi-million dollar Sirius XM podcast deal, one would wonder: would the TV icon return to late night TV?
Is Fallon Being Canceled?
First, it was Ellen. Now, reports broke last week about the toxic work environment on The Tonight Show. According to an explosive bombshell report from Rolling Stone, several former and current Tonight staffers, 14, to be exact are complaining about abusive treatment, starting at the very top, with Fallon himself. The report shares eye witness accounts from actual staffers of Fallon's erratic behavior, even in front of rehearsal studio audiences. They share incidents of Bad Jimmy Days, and Good Jimmy Days, on the set. The report also says that unused guest dressing rooms are now called crying rooms, for staffers to hide away and compose themselves after the alleged abuse from Fallon and showrunner Chris Miller.
Zoom Apology
People reports that soon after the Rolling Stone story broke, Fallon and Miller hit Zoom to address the accusations and apologize:
"It's embarrassing and I feel so bad," they recalled the television personality stating during the meeting. "Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you.”
But not ALL staffers are on the attack. Some current staffers came to Fallon's defense saying his treatment of them was fine. NBC told Rolling Stone that the allegations have been addressed, and changes have been made to continue to provide a respectful work environment.
What About Conan?
Last week Newsweek came out with a report saying that Conan O'Brien's name is surfacing on social media to replace Jimmy Fallon. Based on these allegations, many online have backed the former Late Night with Conan O'Brien star. They called for him to return to the desk on the chat show. It is currently off the air due to the ongoing industrial action in Hollywood amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Part of the Conan social media buzz was kicked off by this past Conan clip from 2008 after actor That 70's Show actor Danny was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for two rapes. In this clip Conan alleges that Danny has problems. Launched in 2020, it is reported that Conan's Sirius XM podcast is on fire, with record breaking downloads.
Well, is Fallon out and Conan IN? It seems at this time, NBC is sticking with Fallon. Stay tuned.
Boston is the best city in the world. It shouldn't surprise you that some amazing television shows were set in Boston. Many of those TV shows, I bet you didn't even know were set here. They may even be shows you've watched or even loved and you had no idea. And with the Frasier reboot happening and being set here in Boston, we wanted to refresh your memory (or even enlighten you) to the TV shows that were set right here in Boston.
Let's first take a look at why Hollywood happens to have an obsession over Boston...especially lately. Well if you're talking about movies specifically, there are amazing tax incentives for shooting in the Bay State. Any film production that spends more than $50,000 in The Bay State is eligible for a 25% production credit, a 25% payroll credit, and a sales tax exemption. That alone is tempting enough to bring Hollywood here. The geography and landscape in Massachusetts seems to also be a prime asset for TV and film creators. Many also cite the history and culture in the Boston area as being what lures filmmakers in. Regardless, Boston and Massachusetts has been a target for TV shows and film settings for decades.
We're going to run down some of the best TV shows that have historically been set in Boston. Some go as far back as 1982. Now, these are not EVERY show that has been set in Boston. These are just some of the most recognizable and ones that have been fan favorites over the years. If you have any you'd like to add, please be sure to message us. In the meantime, let's take a trip down memory lane as we get ready for yet another TV show set in Boston to make its debut in October. Happy watching!
