There’s a new phenomenon happening around the country. It’s called Comic Con. The Rhode Island Comic Con is this weekend at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Amica Mutual Pavillion this weekend. What started as a comic book convention has catapulted into a cavalcade of fandom that is almost unreal. Who would have thought that THOUSANDS of adoring fans would wait for almost two hours to meet Johnny Lawrence?
Cobra Kia Season 5
Wait, who is Johnny Lawrence? That’s that the bad guy bully in Karate Kid. Well today, the character is now a hero in the Netflix reboot called Cobra Kai. William Zabka brilliantly brings his grown up, but stumbling version of Johnny back to life in the reboot. Zabka’s modern day Johnny has turned from the popular bully to struggling adult with every day problems. What makes it funny is that he is stuck in the 1980’s with his kid tutoring him on modern day technology. I’m happy to report, that Zabka’s character is no longer a bully. Now, he uses he karate skills for GOOD teaching kids to defend themselves from….bullys.
Ralph Macchio is back.
Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio is back as a grownup Daniel LaRusso. Unlikely Johnny Lawrence, LaRusso turned his 1980’s karate win into a successful adult life owning a car dealership. But, we soon find out that Danny faces the same issues that he came upon as a kid.
Real Life
Cobra Kai is a great blend of real life struggles, some humor and hope for kids, parents and the family. Five seasons and thousands at the RI Comic Con to see the cast is proof of it’s success. It was amazing to see parents with their kids, in line to meet these stars.
