Do they talk?

Years ago, when I was introduced to the world of cats, I laughed at my wife when she said my cats talk.

Flash forward to today, she laughs at me when I talk to them, saying things like, Ellie told me....she's hungry.

Ok, you may be laughing at me, but my cat Ellie understands the words:

Ellie, the birdies are here!

No matter where she is in the house, when she hears the word birdies, she comes running to see the birds on our new deck.
