Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Pat Benatar turns 70 today, January 10, 2023.
Benatar is a LEGEND. She has had two multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, and 15 Billboard top 40 singles. In Canada she had eight straight platinum albums, and she has sold over 35 million albums worldwide.
She is also a four-time Grammy Award winner. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022.

Anyway, in honor of Pat Benatar turning 70, I must acknowledge TWO Pat Benatar songs/videos that I love.
I say songs/videos because the songs and videos are forever linked together because that WAS MTV in the 80s. Which is how it was mean to be.
Runner Up: “We Belong” (Theme from The Legend of Billie Jean)
This movie was in constant rotation on Showtime or HBO or whatever subscription my parents had in 1985.
I watched it a THOUSAND times. And quoted it often. But I’ll be damned if I can tell you the plot.
All I know is Billie Jean cut her long hair into a buzz cut, ran from the police and pumped her fist in the air.
It was GENIUS.

Picture it: I’m 11. Home from school. Flip on MTV. Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield” premieres.
All of a sudden, I’m watching a three minute documentary on SEX TRAFFICKING.
Yup, young Patty gets into a fight with her father, runs away and suddenly she’s got a pimp, turns tricks AND, apparently, has an incredible choreographer.

Angered by this, he tries once again to assault her but Benatar and the girls overpower and defeat the pimp, then storm out of the club dancing into the sunrise before bidding goodbye to one another, thanking Benatar for their escape. The girls escape and strike out on their own and Benatar walks into the sunrise. The final scene shows Benatar sitting in the back of a bus headed for an unknown destination.”
