Catch up with the latest ketchup!

Remember, the days when there was only one type of ketchup? You probably were a fan of either Heinz, ketchup or hunts.  Most families would stick to their favorite brand and that would be the end of the purchase decision. Now, there are so many different brands of catch-up to choose from, and so many different types of flavored mash ups. Now, Heinz is releasing Pickle Ketchup and it sounds dill-iscious!

It wasn’t too long ago that the folks from Heinz  Ketchup introduced all types of new flavors. There was the mash ups of ketchup and mayonnaise that was branded as Mayochup that was released in 2018.

The idea was that people no longer had to worry about mixing the mayonnaise and ketchup together on their hamburger. Sales were brisk at first, but like any other fad it has dropped off. So now the folks at Hines have done it again this time mixing pickles and ketchup together.

Mash it up

Now if you don’t have a handy jar of pickles in the refrigerator but you have this new product, you have no worries.

Next year, Heinz will be releasing a new condiment:  PICKLE KETCHUP.  And yes, it's their ketchup, with the added flavor of pickles.

You don’t have a jar of pickles handy? No problem.

Here's a hypothetical for you:  If a company took all your favorite burger toppings and condiments . . . blended them up . . . and released ONE SAUCE to save you time, would that be AWESOME or GROSS?

Heinz is coming out with a new flavor:  PICKLE KETCHUP.  And it is what it sounds like:  A condiment that "combines the tangy and savory flavor of pickles, with Heinz Ketchup."

Someone who has tried it says that it's "like they bottled up the flavor of McDonald's pickles and ketchup."  It "isn't super dilly," and it takes the pairing of ketchup and French fries to another level.

Coming next year

The best part is, this isn't a limited release that you'll have trouble getting your hands on.  It'll start showing up on shelves nationwide early next year.

According to Heinz, 73% of Americans like pickles.  If you're one of them, would YOU give this a shot?

Boston’s Best For National Sandwich Day

National Sandwich Day is November 3, and if you're in the Boston area, you're in a great place to celebrate.

Of course, I celebrate National Sandwich Day every day. If you were to put a gun to my head and threaten to pull the trigger unless I told you what my favorite food was...well, first of all, please put the gun away. That's an unbelievably dangerous thing to do, putting a gun to someone's head. What's wrong with you? OK, now that we've moved past that unpleasantness, I will tell you this: you do not need to threaten me. I will happily shout from the rooftops that my favorite food is indeed the humble sandwich.

I eat a sandwich for lunch every damn day. Well, except for the days where some fine local business is kind enough to drop by with some food. For real, though, I love sandwiches. My latest creation is two slices of tofurkey and a slice of cashew cheese with fake mayo, Dijon mustard, lettuce, and dill pickle slices. Oh, and a sprinkle of celery salt. I'm housing one of those a day for lunch. But if that's not your style, that's OK. There's plenty of other options around Boston.

Boston's Best For National Sandwich Day

Lawn Love ranked Boston at No. 6 in their 2023’s Best Cities for Sandwich Lovers. Most sandwiches per square mile and a high number of highly-rated restaurants serving sandwiches helped put Boston in the Top 10. As your local sandwich expert, I've listed a half-dozen of my favorite sandwiches below, all available in the Boston area. So celebrate National Sandwich Day and grab a sandwich for lunch. And for supper, too.

Dominic's, Waltham

When I found out our studios were moving to Waltham and we'd be NEXT DOOR to Dominic's, I was overjoyed. My girlfriend wised me up to Dom's a few years back and the Parma Panini is my go-to.

Anthony's Italian Specialties, Stoneham

Large Italian with hots. Nobody does it better.

Pete's Roast Beef, Woburn

Even the North Shore Beefers agree: Pete's makes one of the best 3-ways around. And that's what I'm getting every time I go there.

Billy's Roast Beef, Wakefield

Another roast beef shop? Yes. And their beef is fantastic. But it's the chicken kabob pita. I've been eating it since I was a kid growing up in Greenwood. Grilled chicken, tomato, feta, and shredded lettuce, served in a pita, doused in house Greek dressing.

Zaftig's Delicatessen, Brookline

Nova lox with tomato, onion, capers, and schmear on a freshly-baked bagel. L'chaim!

Banh Mi Ba Le, Dorchester

One of the few things I miss about working in Dorchester is being a stone's throw away from the best banh mi sandwich in the city.
