Is It Rude Behavior To Break A Carrot In Half At Grocery Store, This Woman Doesn’t Think So!
For most people this would be totally ridiculous rude behavior, but with grocery store prices the way they are, it’s worth asking . . .
If you only needed HALF a carrot, would you buy a bag of carrots . . . buy one individual carrot . . . or grab a carrot in the produce section, snap it in half, and just pay for the weight of that piece of a carrot?
There’s a video making the rounds of someone taking a snapped-off chunk of a carrot to the self-checkout. They weigh it, and it comes out to EIGHT CENTS.
Let’s not break the carrots in half, people!
The caption asks, “Is this a hack, or highly unethical behavior?”
Some people are saying this is wasteful . . . because it’s very unlikely that someone else would buy the other half. Others say it’s wasteful to buy MORE than you need, if you won’t use it. And others joke that you should bring a PEELER, and peel them first to save a few pennies.
For most of the people that I ran this by, they found it to be very rude behavior. The thinking is, carrots are meant to be sold as is, nobody wants your broken leftovers. It’s not like grabbing a bunch of grapes and leaving the rest. Sometimes I will peel the first couple of non-usable leaves on a cabbage head or I might not need all of the bananas in the bunch a leave a few behind.
It’s common to rummage through the banana bin for a couple of singles, but it’s not common to sift through a bunch of broken carrots that were left behind by someone who only wanted to pay for half.
Let’s not make this a new trend because it has had a million views on Tik Tok. If you see someone displaying this rude behavior please escort them to management or at the very least show them the nice little packages of “baby carrots’.
