It's National S'Mores Day, celebrate with these hacks to take them to the next level!

Nobody knows the exact origin of the summer time treat we know as s'mores.  The origin of s'mores is vague, but some people credit it to the Girl Scouts.  In 1927, the Girl Scouts published a recipe in a book called "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts", but they called them "some mores."  The Girl Scouts have also offered several s'mores-inspired cookies over the years. We have some great hacks to celebrate National S'more's day that takes them to the next level

The traditional recipe

The famous recipe is the simple graham cracker, Hersey's chocolate bar and one marshmallow roasted to whatever burn factor you prefer. Personally, I prefer a little browning with a hint of blackening crisp. Just enough to melt the inside to a gooey, melty messy consistency that will envelope and melt the chocolate just enough to stick to the cracker. Some people like their marsh mellow burnt to a crisp, other like them with just a hint of a tan.

Change up the chocolate bar

A simple way to change up your experience on National S'mores day is to swap out the ingredients. How about a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup instead of the Hersey's Chocolate Bar? Some folks use Charleston Chews instead while others at a Hersey Kiss to the middle of marshmallow, you can swap out the traditional chocolate bar for what ever is your favorite but remember that the thicker the chocolate the more melting time is needed. If you like Nutella, why not just spread it on the cracker instead of the bar?

Cracker hacks

If you want to change up the graham cracker there are other delectable to use instead, such as the simple swap to a cinnamon graham cracker or  a chocolate graham cracker is a great change. How about if you want to be very different and go with a Rice Crispy treat that already has mini marshmallows in them!  If you want to go crazy swap out the cracker for two chocolate cookies such as Tate's which have the same crispy texture as a good cracker.

Marshmallow mash ups

If you want more than just plain old marshmallows you can swap them out for the flavored variety like strawberry and other gourmet types. You can find dozens of different flavored marshmallows online, in fact there is a marshmallow of the month club you can join. If you want to try something other than the traditional kind, why not smear marshmallow fluff directly onto the cracker?
