But before we get to where to get the best pasta in New England, an ode to everything al dente!
Connecticut: Grano Arso in Chester
According to its website, "Grano Arso is an Italian restaurant that cooks with a traditional approach using comforting and memorable flavors to warm the hearts of diners."
And Yelp.com readers agree: "First visit to Grano Arso. Such a fantastic experience! I have to say, the service was impeccable, the food was out of this world! Such a great vibe, comfortable, nice
menu and food timing was perfect! The staff, is tremendous!! You must try this restaurant!!"
Maine: Solo Italiano in Portland
"Simple, flavorful and authentic Northern Italian cuisine. This includes handmade pasta, crudo (raw fish), fresh pizza and an all-Italian wine list. Ingredients are sourced locally, from various Maine farms and from the Gulf of Maine, whenever possible," according to the website.
And Yelp.com folks say: "This was the best Italian food! We shared a misticanza salad and it was perfect, not too oily not
overwhelmingly balsamic. I had the eggplant lasagne and it was the best one of my life! He had the pesto with mandilli pasta. It was sublime!"
Massachusetts: Scampo in Boston
Lydia Shire's Liberty Hotel restaurant has been a staple in the city for years and there's a reason why:
"Absolutely sensational. The service was wonderful. Expect to wait, but everyone is beyond friendly! The crab ravioli was unreal. It had a sort of lemon zest along with a lovely, light flavor from the pea velouté. The crab was so fresh, and it somehow worked with the cheese in the ravioli to perfection. This was the best ravioli I've had in my entire life, the flavor profile was off the charts, and it is a 10/10 recommendation!" according to a Yelper.
New Hampshire: Campo Enoteca in Manchester
Yelp visitors agree: "This place never disappoints! The C&C cocktail is so fresh and yummy. Their Romain salad is the best caesar salad we have ever had. The fresh ricotta and bread was delicious. I have had many different pasta dishes and never a complaint. Fresh pasta that tastes amazing. I wish I had room for dessert! The portions are a good size and the price doesn't hurt at all."
Rhode Island: Massimo Ristorante in Providence
From a Trip Advisor review: "Among the many apparently fine Italian restaurants in the Federal Hill area, we chose this one for the half price antipastos early in the bar. The cauliflower and rustic starters were outstanding, and the lasagna main course we shared was also exceptional.Justin, our waiter/bartender, was very skilled and welcoming. Could not have had a nicer experience."
Vermont: Sarducci’s in Montpelier
According to Gayot.com: "Try the Florentine pie with garlic, spinach and basil or the white pizza with artichoke hearts. Calamari fritti was salty, and served with a jarring cocktail sauce, but the polenta al forno in a sage and mushroom cream left us murmuring with delight. Sarducci’s cellar, boasting Super Tuscans and Cabernets, is affordable. Stick with a Nebbiolo or a Barolo, and try for a seat on the sun porch, perfect for informal lunches or romance by the river."
