Sometimes, goin OUTSIDE the box can work. We found the QUIRKIEST Massachusetts summer shows you can’t miss! I’m not the best, try-new-things, guy.

I’d rather watch a Big Bang Theory repeat, than try a new, unproven Netflix series.

Deep Dive

We did a deep dive search to find some of the quirkiest shows coming this summer, spread through out a variety of wonderful venues. Some of these shows are under the stars, which can be more fun. In my experience, trying new things, can be a little risky, but in many experiences can be a load of fun and memorable, with Instagram worthy moments.

What Exactly Is Quirky?

If you look up the word quirky in Wikipedia:

Quirky describes something that has or is full of quirks, which are odd or unusual qualities. Usually, a person is described as quirky when they behave in a way or have qualities that are unique to them or that set them apart from others. Things are described as quirky when they have odd qualities.

Now, let me assure you, to me, the word quirky doesn’t mean bad. In fact, to me it means different, and surprisingly fun.

Comic Con

For example, last year I went to a Comic Con. If you have been to one, some may say THAT’s quirky, like the afore mentioned, odd or unusual qualities. We watched a Q & A with actor

Brendan Fraser, who talked about his role in The Whale. It was a hidden gem inside a world of comic books and fans dressed as super heroes. Or were they the real super heroes? It was a quirky idea, that worked. It was wonderful to see Brendan Fraser talk about a comeback that he was so grateful to share with fans.

So you be the judge. Are these the QUIRKIEST Massachusetts summer shows you can’t miss? (A couple of the shows are out of state, but nearby.)

  • ABBA Tribute

    Cape Cod Melody Tent

    Sunday, August 6

You’ll be surprised at how many songs you know.

  • An Evening With Yachtley Crew!

    Music Circus

    Saturday July 29

It’s the music of all your favorite yacht rock artists, in tribute band form.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, ‘Yacht Rock’ is a fairly recently coined term for the revival of the
soft rock and top shelf hits of the late 70’s to the early 80’s. And while yes, a lot of it is overwrought
story-driven narrative, the music itself is still a guilty pleasure to listen to, watch and sing along!
Although just about everyone appreciates how ridiculous it is to sing along at the top of your lungs to
“Brandy”, “Africa” or “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”, it is a perfect example of the rediscovery of this
    era in music.
Yächtley Crëw, also known as, “The Titans of Soft Rock”, will reel you in with not only their great sound
but also their fun antics as they perform these timeless soft rock hits by Christopher Cross to Hall &
    Oates to Toto and more!
By being the first to have fun themselves with their heightened ironic songs, they keep it light enough to
amuse the younger members of the crowd but respectful enough for those who remember singing along
to all these hits on AM radio back in the day to enjoy, too! You will love the look of their thematic
nautical suits and highly entertaining, cheeky, self-aware choreography.

  • Air Supply

RHODE ISLAND DATE: November 17, Bally’s Event Center

Ok, it’s not Summer, but noteworthy. Russell Hitchcock, and Graham Russell sound EXACTLY the same now, as their 1980’s hits on the radio. You’ll be stunned. I was.

  • Leonid And Friends: Chicago Tribute Band

    Lynn Auditorium

    Sunday June 18

Prepare to be STUNNED. These guys are the BEST Chicago tribute band, FROM RUSSIA, you’ll EVER SEE. If you love Chicago like I do, you won’t be sorry!

With multiple sold-out U.S. tours under its belt and hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, Leonid & Friends continues to astound its global audience with its unique ability in capturing the spirit, musicality, and fire of American supergroup Chicago.

And what is even more stunning is that Leonid & Friends, comprised of 11 of the finest musicians in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus, haven’t seen Chicago perform live, yet replicates the band’s complex arrangements amazingly note for note.

Chicago has never been in Russia, and none of us have attended their concerts,” said Leonid Vorobyev, a multi-instrumentalist who is the band’s leader. “We have only recordings and videos (to help us learn Chicago songs).”
