Check Engine Light is the #1 Thing Americans Ignore
Are you a master at ignoring stuff until it screams at you louder than a teenager in a horror movie?
Well, you’re not alone!
Actually, you’re a lot like me. Because when the dreaded “check engine” light pops up on my dashboard I turn into one of those monkey statues -you know, the ones covering their eyes, ears and mouths.
Well, it’s what you do too.
Because why panic?
You join the club of folks who let that little light shine for an average of FOUR WHOLE MONTHS before facing the music, according to a new poll.
And guess what? A brave 20% of us take it even further, letting it hang for a whopping six to 18 months. (I’ve done this. I swear.)
Unfortunately, ignoring your check engine light doesn’t make it disappear like magic.
Nope, it just makes things worse.
A solid 35% of us have learned this lesson the hard way.
We’re talking about the problem snowballing into something bigger, costing more cash to fix, and bringing on enough stress to make you slam on your brakes.
And let’s not forget those oh-so-fun roadside emergencies. (This is why I have AAA.)
Now, when it comes to which car troubles keep us up at night, it’s the engine that burns the midnight hour.
Brakes come in close behind, followed by fuel system shenanigans, exhaust issues, tire tantrums, and AC or heat dramas.
Yep, cars sure know how to rev up the anxiety.
What’s the cost of ignoring your check engine light?
Oh, and here’s a fun fact for you: the average driver shells out about $438 each year to keep their ride in tip-top shape.
And over the lifespan of their car? Try a whopping $6,300! My God. Ubering sounds good right now.
Now, let’s peek into the world of procrastination, shall we?
Ever put off cleaning out the garage until you couldn’t fit your car in there anymore?
Or maybe you’ve ignored that leaky faucet until it turned your kitchen into a mini swimming pool.
How about dodging the dentist until your toothache becomes a full-blown saga?
And let’s not forget that mountain of laundry that somehow becomes Everest in your mind.
Listen we all do it. Obviously. But slam the brakes on procrastination! Just check that check engine light, will you?
