As a lifelong Boston sports fan, I grew up worshiping the local pro teams and their athletes. Last night, The Sports Museum of New England held their 17th gala known as “The Tradition”, at the TD Garden. They honored Paul Pierce, Don Cherry, Deion Branch, Jim Lonborg, Julie Foudy and Richard Petty! It was a star studded cast.
I was lucky enough to attend, thanks to my close friend George Grey, who takes me and Wally Brine and some other friends every year. The nice part of going with a ticket as opposed to a going as a media member is you get to be more of a fan. I was the kid from Medford who still felt eight years old. I met legendary Celtic Satch Sanders, saw Boston Marathon legend Dave McGillivray, former Celtic Kendrick Perkins, shook hands with Bruins great Rick Middleton and got to chat with Dan Shaughnessy, Bob Ryan and a bunch of other friends.
The absolute highlight for me was meeting and talking with former Bruins All Star and coach Terry O’Reilly and former coach, Don Cherry!
It was a special night!
Check out some of the highlights!
