Why is Tanglewood about to ROCK? Yes it’s true. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is about to ROCK with it’s popular artist series that kicks off June 22.

When you think Tanglewood, you think iconic names like James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and of course the BSO.

With Spring just a few days away, we need SUMMER to fly in like an eagle. (I apologize for the cheesy play on words. Keep in mind we’re expecting a foot of snow as I write this.) Why is Tanglewood about to ROCK? Let’s take a look! According to the BSO:

Boston Symphony Orchestra recently announced its 85th Tanglewood Summer Season, including the Popular Artist Series which kicks off on Thursday, June 22, 2023, with NPR’s oddly informative news quiz program Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! This summer the concert series returns, bringing some of the most engaging artists in pop and rock to perform at Tanglewood with seating in the Koussevitzky Music Shed and on the surrounding lawn. The 2023 Tanglewood Popular Artists lineup includes Steve Miller Band with Very Special Guest Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers on Friday, June 23, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss with Special Guest JD McPherson on Sunday, July 2, the return of James Taylor on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, and Train with Special Guest Parmalee on Thursday, August 24.

James Taylor-Train-Robert Plant

Tanglewood promises a SUMMER of hits. I have seen JT, and his LIVE performances sound exactly like your MP3 player. Not to mention Steve Miller. He owned the 1970’s and 80’s with hit after hit. I promise, you will know the words to every song, and also say “I forgot about that one!”

Train’s Pat Monahan is a great guy and brings a ton of hits with him from the 2000’s. Then, there’s Robert Plant. Seeing the lead singer of Led Zeppelin live is a bucket list item.

It’s gonna be a HOT SUMMER. It can’t come soon enough!

  • James Taylor Honors John Williams at Tanglewood

John Williams did the theme of Star Wars, JAWS, and countless movie and TV themes. He’s a God and an American treasure. Take a listen on how James works John’s name into this version of his hit “Sweet Baby James.”

  • Steve Miller At Tanglewood!

Recognize this one?! This one of the most FAMILIAR guitar riffs in music!!! Back in the 1970’s Steve was accused of lifting the melody Skynyrd’s 1974 hit “Sweet Home Alabama” for the 1976 Miller hit  “Take the Money And Run.”

  • Bruce Hornsby LIVE!

This is an unbelievable smash from Bruce Hornsby!!!! You’ll know it immediately!

  • Train LIVE!!!!

This is what Train will sound like at Tanglewood this Summer! Pat Monahan is a star, and a down to earth regular guy as well. When he did an even for our station, he was hysterical in introduction his hit “Hey Soul Sister.” He said: “ok that next song starts in the key of, what the hell was I thinking?” Referring to the fact that the song in an extremely HIGH key, which now, he still has to hit every time he sings it, being over 10 years old.

  • Robert Plant-Alison Krauss

Unless you’re a fan, you’ve never heard ROCKER Robert Planet like this. These two are pretty cool together. Imagine them LIVE at Tanglewood.
