Paul McCartney’s NEW Song That Just Tuned 50
As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Band On The Run album, it’s almost scary and yet inspiring how Sir Paul keeps finding new and innovative ways to connect with his fan base, and expand it. Paul McCartney should teach a class at Harvard on “How To Stay Relevant.”
McCartney Photo Exhibit
How about his photo exhibition in Brooklyn this May sharing actual original photos taken during the Beatles heyday from his Pentax camera? Or his recipe book sharing vegan delights?
Live And Let Die LIVE
Did you hear the story about the iconic hit Live And Let Die? Paul was about to play the song LIVE. That song features massive lights, pyrotechnics and explosions which always shock the audience with delight. Right before the song was about start, he looked down and noticed an ELDERLY woman in the FRONT row. Paul said in an interview “OH MY God, I saw this elderly woman and thought, this song may kill her.” Paul, YOU’RE 81.
That’s the point. Paul McCartney is ageless and timeless.
McCartney Connects One On One
To see Paul McCartney LIVE is a surreal event. The big screens make his bigger than life persona BIGGER. Yet, he commands unmatchable charm and charisma. At the concert you feel like he’s talking directly to you one on one. Each song he performs is an event. I felt that he was performing JUST for ME. The other 60,000 at Fenway felt the same exact way.
Band On The Run 50th Anniversary
After hearing the Beatles smash Love Me Do, he went right into the smash single Band On The Run. Now I have heard it over 1000 times. Yet that night, it was like the very first time. It was LIVE and raw. I’m getting chills just reliving this memory with you right now.
Well Paul has done it again.
The re-release of the 50th Anniversary album AND single Band On The Run is a version you have never heard. Paul has pulled out an old trick in music making. He called the release Band On The Run: Underdubbed. It’s a stripped down, raw version of the original mix. Make no mistake. It has all of the original fixings that made us fall in love the first time. But certain backup vocals, guitar over dubs and keyboards are missing. He has given us a version that sounds like he performed it in your house. Yet, (TO ME) it’s not a boring acoustic version that MTV stuck us with in the 1980’s. It’s still Band On The Run.
According to udiscovermusic.com:
McCartney explains, “This is Band On The Run in a way you’ve never heard before. When you are making a song and putting on additional parts, like an extra guitar, that’s an overdub. Well, this version of the album is the opposite, underdubbed. The “Underdubbed Mix” version of Band on the Run will be featured on the expanded 50th-anniversary edition of Band on the Run, set to be released on February 2.
When Paul McCartney gives us LESS, it’s actually MORE.
