We Don’t throw rotten tomatoes at the screen with these movies because they are the top 12 movies of the past 25 years!

In recognition of Rotten Tomatoes’ 25th anniversary  critics voted on the Top 12 films of the last 25 years. It is amazing to think that some of these movies are now a quarter of a century old. Some of them can be seen rerunning daily on your cable or streaming service because they have stood the test of cinema time.

These are not rotten at all!

The best reasons we watch these great movies over and over is because they are highly rated on the website rotten tomatoes. The concept behind the website and its ranking system is unique. Movies are ranked on audience reviews not some lofty critic in New York or Hollywood telling us whether or not we should see it.

Thumbs up or down

Before the rotten tomatoes system of ranking movies based on the public’s feelings of them. We would rely on critics like Siskel and Ebert, who would simply talk about the movies on their weekly show.  They would give the movie either a thumbs up or thumbs down. That was all we needed. They’ve been gone a long time and the internet was in its infancy when their show went off the air.

Have you seen all 12?

As you look at the list, you should keep in mind how many of these you have seen. If you are like our family, you are always looking for something to watch on one of these streaming services. So if anything, else, use this list as something to consider when you’re looking for a movie to watch on movie night.

Grab your popcorn and not the tomatoes!

We bet that you will not agree that these are the 12 best movies since 2000 because you will see that there are movies from the comedic field that are not represented. Movies like the hangover, wedding crashers, bridesmaids and so many more. But remember these are movies that scored the highest ranking on the website rotten tomatoes.

  • 12. "Fight Club", 1999

Starring Brad Pitt as the leader of the Fight Club with a surprising twist at the end. It’s become a cult classic over the past 25 years.

  • 11. "Saving Private Ryan", 1998

Starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon among others it is a must watch for any fan of war movies or anyone without knowledge of D-Day. The opening 30 minutes are both brutal and necessary to convey the real feel of war.

  • 10. "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", 2002

Still stands the test of time, stunning and eye popping to watch when you consider it was at the beginning of CGI

  • 9 . "Everything Everywhere All at Once", 2022

Oscar winning movie that for some is confusing and over rated. Decide for yourself.

  • 8. "Parasite", 2019

From South Korea about a family that scheme to live off a rich family and become literally parasitic. Sub titles of course.

  • 7. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", 2001

A majestic story that sets the pace for the entire series. Directed by the genius Peter Jackson.

  • 6. "The Matrix", 1999

Cult Classic starring Keanu Reeves, it is the first in the series and sets the tone for what is to come.

  • 5. "Avengers: Endgame", 2019

Some say the greatest of all Avenger movies, and the critics agree.

  • 4. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King", 2003

Ending to the trilogy that is very satisfying and leaves you wanting more.

  • 3. "Inception", 2010

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, who also produced the film with Emma Thomas, his wife. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious of his targets. If it’s directed by Chris Nolan, it has to be good.

  • 2. "Interstellar", 2014

It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Matt Damon, and Michael Caine. Set in a dystopian future where humanity is embroiled in a catastrophic blight and famine, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for humankind. Again, if it’s directed by Chris Nolan, it’s going to be good.

  • 1. "The Dark Knight", 2008

Considered to be the best of all Batman movies, with Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, directed by Chris Nolan (no surprise)
