Fall means football. Football means beer. The Patriots aren’t off to a great start, but when entertaining family and friends for the games, you may want to start the festivities with one of Massachusetts favorites. These 7 made in Mass. beers offer a wide range of fall flavors from maple to cinnamon. New England is known for all things autumn, so you can imagine our fall beer offerings are as colorful as our foliage.

  • Harpoon Brewery's Flannel Friday

Let’s start by talking about the name, and packaging. Perfection. And so New England. The chill of a crisp fall day, always brings out our flannel. And now we have a beer to match for our casual Fridays. Harpoon says “American hops combine with subtle notes of caramel and roast in this seasonal Amber Ale. Teetering somewhere between a Brown Ale and a Red IPA but balanced and easy-drinking.”

  • CAKE! Exhibit A Brewing Company

The Framingham brewery company describes CAKE! As you might imagine, only sweeter! Here’s their official description of this Fall favorite: “Our Autumn ale is brewed with cinnamon and vanilla beans, pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice coffee cake, from My Grandma’s of New England, along with light roast coffee from Share Coffee Roasters. It’s cake beer. It’s pumpkin beer. It’s fun for fall beer.

  • Pursuit of Sappiness Maple Brown Ale, Mayflower Brewing Company

What’s in a name? Apparently, it’s maple!  The Mayflower Brewing Company, out of Plymouth, has added a favorite fall flavor to it’s brew. And as the name clearly states, it’s maple. The company shared with boston.com, “The addition of a little Vermont maple syrup puts a New England twist on our classic brown ale.  The beer is rich and full-bodied with flavors of caramel, toffee, chocolate, molasses, and of course, maple syrup.”

  • Oktoberfest: Märzen, Trillium Brewing Company

The Boston area brewing company explains that this beer embraces a take on Wiesnbier, the traditional brew of Oktoberfest. And says, “it is beautiful in its simplicity. For our take on the style, we utilized primarily German pilsner malt and paired it with noble Spalter hops to achieve notes of rich grain, bread dough, and a touch of lemon. Subtly sweet on the palate, with a medium-bodied mouthfeel, this is a lager built for enjoying by the mug.

  • Copper Legend, Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers

Another fab Framingham brewery in the fall flavors game! Taste Jack Abby’s Copper Legend. It’s been said by the brewer that this brew is, “malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable lager. Copper Legend is the perfect beer for creating legendary times with legendary people. Raise a can to Honor Today’s Legends. Brewed with noble hops. Prost!” And that being said, check out more from Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers
