There is nothing like a holiday movie to put you in a good mood, and lift your spirits. We all have our favorites that we watch year after year. Ever wonder how your favorite compares to everyone else’s? The list is out of the most-rewatched holiday classics.
Why do some holiday movies become classics?
This list is based on a poll by Yahoo and YouGov, and they came up with the top 10. In talking about the poll, Pamela Rutledge, the director of the independent Media Psychology Research Center, talks about why some holiday films are so loved. She says that first and foremost, they make us feel something. She told Yahoo Entertainment that they let us tap into our emotions. So whether you’re laughing, crying, or even just going “awwww,” it allows you to experience emotions that are associated with the power of connection, compassion and empathy.
Rutledge also says that holiday movies trigger nostalgia for “the good old days,” by tapping into tradition. Why? she says that, “The human brain is funny. It tends to remember happy events with a bit of fairy dust, amplifying the glow and heightening our enjoyment of positive memories. [The holiday favorites] become annual rituals, signifying the holiday season as much as Christmas carols playing at the mall.”
Why do we re-watch the holiday classics?
It’s pretty simple. We watched it, we loved it, it made us feel good, and we want to do it again. I don’t know about you but I am a huge fan of re-watching shows and movies. Some of these movies and shows become comforting to us, and can be self-care. Why wouldn’t we want to feel better? Lately it feels like life is very heavy and we could all use a break. The holidays couldn’t come at a better time.
