Dads like breakfast!

Looking for something dad wants for Father’s Day? Speaking as a dad and for dads, we like breakfast. We’re not so much interested in a fancy brunch place as much as we want a big hearty breakfast from a reliable diner. That’s not to say we dads don’t like brunch ever, but for the one special day, we prefer a good old fashioned breakfast without all the fanfare.

Break some eggs!

Dad’s just love eggs of all kinds, and we know how we like them cooked. Some of us prefer them sunny side up, others easy over, soft, hard, scrambled, omelets or Benedict style. For me it’s all of the above except hard. I prefer a soft yolk that’s not too runny!

What’s on the side?

You can go for the traditional meat choices of bacon, sausage (patty or link), corned beef hash, ham or I see some folks order a burger patty on the side and it looks wonderful. There’s something about eggs that require a meaty friend. I prefer sausage links myself because they’re so fun to dip into the yolk.

How about some pancakes?

What dad doesn’t like pancakes? I love a good pancake but I never order them, probably because I can always count on my wife or one of our daughters to order a stack and I can pretty much rely on getting a bite or two because they never are able to finish them and besides, have you ever tried to take leftover pancakes home? They don’t travel well if you already doused them in maple syrup.

French toast?

We love French toast, but again, most dads will not be ordering them for breakfast and for the same reason we don’t order pancakes, but again, there’s always someone at the table ordering them and we can sneak in a bite or two. French toast is really getting fancy these days with all the fruit and whipped cream on top, most dad’s will pass and go for the egg breakfast.

We asked our listeners for their favorite diners

We asked listeners on our Facebook page to nominate their favorite diners to get a great hearty breakfast at a good price and not having to worry about getting too fancy. We wanted basic breakfast foods that will fill dad up at least until he can light the grill later for burgers or steaks.

Here’s the dozen most nominated Boston area diners
