Massachusetts ICONS Quitting Hollywood?
Say it isn’t so! Are TWO Massachusetts ICONS quitting Hollywood?
This breaking news as Hollywood goes through an overhaul. You can thank TWO major strikes, with writers and actors fighting for better conditions.
Hollywood Writers Strike Update
The Hollywood Reporter magazine reports that both parties, the producers and writers are coming back to the bargaining table: Top entertainment company leaders joined the negotiations on Wednesday in a sign of a new sense of urgency pervading the discussions. “CEOs have cleared their calendars and want to sit and have a real conversation,” one studio-side source familiar with Wednesday’s session told THR.
Talks Shows Resuming, Now Are Not
Last week we reported that talk show hosts Bill Maher and Drew Barrymore were to resume their respective talk shows in the midst of the strike, much to the disappointment of the Writers Guild Of America, the union that represents the writers. Maher said his reason to resume was to help his staff make ends meet, saying that the writers are not the only people in need during this strike.
But in a total reversal, both Maher and Barrymore decided NOT to resume their shows, saying that they both feel that conditions have improved for both parties. Some may argue that resuming these two talk shows could damage momentum to negotiations. You could wonder if Maher and Barrymore threw out the resuming possibility as a tactic to resolve this strike, faster. Shows with no writers are not as good as shows with writers. Bad shows hurt ratings, and that hurts everyone.
Are Two Massachusetts ICONS quitting Hollywood?
This week iconic actor Chris Evans announced that he was thinking of retiring from acting. According to IGN.com:
Honestly, who could blame Captain America himself, Chris Evans, for wanting a bit of a break? The longtime Marvel star opened up to GQ where he revealed that he wants to act less in favor of just chilling out and smoking joints for the foreseeable future.
Sounds like the Sudbury native is a little burnt out? In July he deactivated his Instagram and X accounts. (I just read this on X.)
On the heels of the Evans story, Dorchester’s Mark Wahlberg shares a similar sentiment talking to reporters:
When ET Online reporters asked about his plans to stop acting, the 52-year-old responded, “sooner rather than later, probably. I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now,” Wahlberg continued, “That’s for sure. Because that’s the most difficult thing.”
Are these two Massachusetts ICONS quitting Hollywood? Or is it a tactic to scare the studio bosses to speed things up and resolve these strikes? If this were a TV show, you’d see: To Be Continued….
