Wicked Summer Fun Guide

The coronavirus pandemic has definitely turned this into an odd summer. Movie theaters are either shut down, or operating at reduced capacity. But that allows for the return of a novelty from years ago – the drive-in!

There are a number of drive-in movie theaters – both permanent and pop-up – around the Boston area, and they’re just waiting for you to drive up and catch a film!

Showcase Pop-Up Drive-In at Patriot Place

The folks at Showcase Cinemas and Patriot Place have teamed up to launch a pop-up drive-in experience in the parking lots surrounding Gillette Stadium in Foxboro this summer. All tickets must be purchased on the Showcase Cinemas App. Prices are around $20 per vehicle. Get more information on the Showcase Cinemas website.

Mendon Twin Drive-In

According to their website, “The Mendon Twin Drive-in was built in 1953 and opened June 14, 1954. A second movie screen was added in 1998. It’s now a New England institution and one of the top drive-ins in the country, sitting on nearly sixteen acres of beautiful, tree-lined land.”

Kowloon Restaurant Pop-Up Drive-In

Known for their famous Saugus wings, the Wong Family who have owned Kowloon up on Route 1 for 70 years, are branching out into the outdoor movie business this summer. The town has given the green light for the Kowloon to set up a drive-in screen in their parking lot. Once it’s operational, we’ll update with more details.

Marshfield Pop-Up Drive-In

While the Marshfield Fair has been postponed until 2021, the fairgrounds will host a pop-up drive-in starting June 25th, 2020. Tickets will be $27 per vehicle with a $6/person charge over 6 people. More information can be found on the drive-in’s website.

Scarlet Oak Tavern Pop-Up Drive-In

Located in Hingham, the Scarlet Oak Tavern is doing movie nights in June in their parking lot. Price is $25 per car and more information is available on their website.

Wellfleet Drive-In

Heading down the Cape this summer? There’s a drive-in there too! The Wellfleet Drive-in has been a Cape Cod staple since 1957. Tickets are $13/adults, $9 seniors/kids, and kids under 3 free. Get details at their website.
