Governor Baker Orders Nonessential Businesses To Close Physical Locations
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker instituted a ‘stay at home advisory’ for the state, effective Tuesday, March 24th at noon through April 7th, 2020.
All non-essential businesses are ordered to shut down their physical locations and switch to a telework operation.
Essential businesses include grocery stores and businesses that support the grocery industry (shippers, producers, farms, etc.) as well as gas stations, pharmacies, medical facilities, manufacturers of medical supplies, drugs, pharmaceuticals.
In addition, restaurants that are currently providing takeout and delivery will be allowed to remain open. Package and liquor stores are still considered essential, and will remain open. However, recreational marijuana dispensaries will be ordered closed due to the large crowds they draw, especially from out of state.
Travel and transit is not being impeded at this time. The MBTA will continue to run on a revised schedule, and roads remain open.
Today I issued an emergency order requiring all businesses and organizations that do not provide #COVID19 essential services to close their physical workplaces and facilities to workers, customers and the public.
