Leominster Massachusetts UNDER Water

The pictures are stunning seeing Leominster, Massachusetts UNDER WATER. With Hurricane Lee headed north this weekend, things are not getting easier. We're all getting the alerts from National Grid, Eversource, Comcast and Spectrum on potential outages to come.

Local Coverage of Leominster

More rain is NOT what the town of Leominster wants to see.

WCVB reports:

Monday's deluge dumped at least 9 inches of rain on Leominster, which washed out roadways, formed sinkholes and sent floodwaters into buildings. In the wake of the flooding, officials were concerned about two dams, several damaged structures and MBTA Commuter Rail tracks that were left dangling in mid-air.

If there is any good news, it's that no one was hurt.

The mayor of Leominster say the damage caused by Monday's rain will take weeks, not days to fix. The estimated cost to repair the damage is $30 to $40 million dollars. Schools reopened Thursday.

Hurricane Lee Headed Northeast

As of this writing, the direction Hurricane Lee is expected to impact the coastal parts of New England, late Friday and into Saturday. With the heavy rain we already have experienced, loose soil, heavy rain and wind could down more trees, causing power outages.

According to the Weather Channel:

Hurricane Lee has begun its trek northward and its large size means the storm is increasingly likely to affect eastern New England.  Atlantic Canada and Bermuda with strong winds, soaking rain and coastal flooding over the coming days.

Fortunately, the governor declared Leominster a state of emergency which makes funding and support available faster.

 Leominster Relief Fund

If you want to help the people affected by Monday's storm, a relief fund has been set up. To donate to the Leominster Relief Fund.

Send a check made out to the LEOMINSTER RELIEF FUND. Or stop by the mayor's office at 25 West Street to donate by cash or check.
