No Van Halen Tribute

Young Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen  is no stranger to sharing his opinions on just about everything. But this time he may be justified. As of now, there will be no Van Halen tribute concert, for the deceased Eddie Van Halen.

DLR To Blame?

In a recent article from Louder Sound Wolfgang almost calls out David Lee Roth by name:

When writer Brian Hiatt asks ‘if someone were to assume that the main problem was a certain singer with three initials, what would you say to that?’ Wolfgang responds, “I would say ‘Do your research on the history of Van Halen, and come to your conclusions’.”

“What I can say,” Wolfgang states, {“is that there was an attempt at doing something. But, you know, I don’t like to speak negatively about people, but there are some people that make it very difficult to do anything when it comes to Van Halen.

It looks like we have an old fashioned feud on our hands. Some things never change. The next generation of Van Halen, is still feuding with David Lee Roth

Maybe the most famous! But Taylor never backed down. From Complex.com:

The quintessential show business feud of our time erupted at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. We’re all familiar with the circumstances: as Taylor Swift accepted her Best Female Video award, Kanye rushed the stage, grabbed the mic, and (rightfully) declared that Beyoncé was robbed. All hell broke loose.

  • Elton John and Madonna

    Elton John

    Elton and Madonna?

Speaking of sacrilege and blasphemy, Madonna ain’t no virgin when it comes to celebrity feuds. Her most famous tiff was with Elton John – and Sir Elton fired most of the shots in this catty beef.

The opening salvo came when John dissed Madonna’s theme song for the 2002 Bond film Die Another Day, calling it the worst James Bond theme ever. Mean. He also accused her of lip-synching at least twice, including at her 2012 Super Bowl performance, and his husband, David Furnish, has been known to sneak in his own insults. Finally, in 2019, Elton called Madonna “ungracious and nasty” for speaking badly about Lady Gaga.

Never talk shit about Lady Gaga, because Elton John will find you.

  • Elton and Rod Stewart

    Rod Stewart

This is definitely one of the most graphic rock myths, and there’s no subtle way to explain it. Simply put, the rumor was Stewart had to go to an emergency room to have his stomach pumped after performing oral sex on a number of sailors at a gay bar, and a large amount of semen was removed. In his 2012 autobiography, Stewart said the rumor was started by his former publicist Tony Toon after he was fired. He wrote, “Toon’s revenge was absolutely inspired…I have never orally pleasured even a solitary sailor, let alone a ship’s worth in one evening. And I have never had my stomach pumped, either of naval-issue semen or of any other kind of semen…This story has stayed with me ever since. Say what you like about Tony Toon — and God rest his soul — but he was good at his job.”

Rod said that Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road goodbye tour is nothing more than a money grab. Elton reportedly, once had a Rod Stewart  promotion balloon SHOT out of the sky. If those two keep this up, they will become the two old guys on The Muppets.

This one is TOO girly for me. No comment. Ok, the story is that Martha said Gwyneth is trying to hard to be Martha. I have to go check on my doilies. I’ll be back in next story.

  • Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks

38th Annual NAACP Image Awards - Backstage

I thought they were the same person. With that said, I love the way they walk. Here’s the story:

Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks, two of the most beautiful women in human history, have a long-simmering feud dating back to the early ’90s. At the time, Naomi was perhaps the world’s most sought-after supermodel, a trailblazer who shattered glass ceiling after glass ceiling and paved the way for generations of black models. Tyra was a rookie on the fashion circuit. She was immediately compared to Campbell for her otherworldly beauty and, frankly, her race.

Ultimately, this feud says more about racist stereotyping and the lack of space for racialized people in the international fashion industry than it does about Banks or Campbell. That’s not to say either was blameless – Naomi is accused of pushing Tyra out of lucrative shows and a prestigious modeling agency; Tyra has continued to revisit the beef – but the press is liable for hyping the feud out of proportion and making it difficult for the fashion icons to coexist.

  • David Letterman and Jay Leno

St Louis Cardinals v Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI, OH – AUGUST 06: Former late night television host David Letterman attends a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on August 6, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cardinals defeated the Reds 13-4. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)

This feud has been going on as long as Dave’s beard. This one is close to my heart. I disagree with the author’s comments below saying Leno is bland. I think Leno IS funny, as I do Letterman. Leno’s style is different than Dave’s. I’ve seen Leno up close. He was hired for a radio convention in front of 100 of us. Leno did an hour of hysterical comedy, had the audience howling. Every joke was clean, he didn’t swear once. But with that said, for the most part, this writer was accurate.

    Here’s the story:

Exactly one million years ago, The Tonight Show, currently hosted by giggling fifth-grader Jimmy Fallon, was presided over by Johnny Carson. As the ’90s dawned, Carson prepared to relinquish his spot behind the big desk. David Lettermen, known today for having a beard, then hosted Late Night, which ran directly after Carson. He expected to be the Tonight Show‘s next host.

That didn’t happen. NBC execs worried Letterman might be too harsh, too mean (too funny) for Carson’s middle America audience, so they gave the spot to bland everyman Jay Leno. Letterman dipped to CBS to host a rival show, Late Show with David Letterman. Leno got the job and the ratings, Letterman got the critical acclaim.

The feud between Letterman and Leno was mostly a ratings rivalry for many years. Then, in the early 2000s, when Leno was planning his own departure, Late Night host Conan O’Brien was touted as his replacement. In fact, NBC promised him the spot.

At the last second, history repeated itself. The network backed out, Leno jumped back in, and the comedy world rallied to Conan’s defence. His most prominent supporter? David Letterman.
