Before we seek out Massachusetts FAVORITE Halloween Candy, we must ask, what is it about Halloween that turns us back into children? While Christmas is about giving, Halloween is about taking, isn’t it?

The minute we hit October, the seasonal shift to pumpkin this, pumpkin that takes over our lives. It’s the one month (if you don’t count February and December) that we put our diets on hold. So let’s take a look at why we love Halloween!

The Stats

Reports show that 2023 Halloween spending may exceed pre-pandemic levels. It seems that people, despite higher credit card usage, have no problem spending on fun stuff like candy, decorations, costumes and entertaining.

USA Today reports:

Consumers are expected to spend a record $12.2 billion for Halloween candy, costumes and decorations, according to National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics.

On an individual basis, we’ll spend about $108.24 per person, a jump from $100.45 in 2002.

Why We Dress Up

Studies have shown why we dress up for Halloween to become someone else.

While we all have our own individual reasons, there are professionals that can tell us why as well. A professor at the Psychology Department at Old Dominion University says:

“It’s the excitement of facing your fears in a controlled environment, like a haunted house. They raise adrenaline, they raise your endorphins,” Halloween also offers the chance to dress up as someone else and relieve some baggage you might be carrying around in your day-to-day life.”

Add to that, in creating many Boo Bash radio station events over the years, our audience loves the safe, fun environment that allows them to dress up, be someone else, dance, have fun and be a kid again.

So, now that we are craving the days before laptops, desktops, smartphones and Google, let’s go find Massachusetts FAVORITE Halloween Candy, according to Instacart.
