Today March 23 is National Puppy Day!

We went to the official AKC website to check on the Top 15 dog breeds for 2022 and here is the list. There's not a lot of surprises or new comers on the list, most are breeds that have been popular for a long time.

My family and I have a Miniature Schnauzer and a 4 month old Welsh Corgi, they are both great breeds of dog but only one made the top 15 this year, (I won't tell Sophie she didn't make it)

Here's the Top 15 AKC Dog Breeds of 2022!

15. Doberman Pinschers

The Dobermann was first bred in Germany in 1890 by a tax collector named Louis Dobermann, I'm sure he scared the money out of deadbeats!

14. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a British breed that was developed in the 1790's and bred to have a flat nose. A regal dog for sure

Another British breed of toy dog, the Yorkshire is a very popular breed because of it's pocket size of usually less than 8 pounds and they look so cute with ribbons!

12. Australian Shepherds

The Australian Shepherd is actually from California in the 19th century by way of Spain, go figure!

11. Pembroke Welsh Corgis

The Corgi is a cattle herding dog breed that originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and if you have one like I do, you know they love to herd and be heard!

10. German Shorthaired Pointers

Another German bred dog that was primarily developed to be a hunting dog, hence the pointing I guess

9. Dachshunds

Also known as the wiener dog or sausage dog with their long body and short legs and once again another dog that was bred in Germany that helped flush out small animals during hunts

8. Beagles

The Beagle was bred as hunting dog in search of hare or rabbits, with great tracking skills and a keen sense of smell they are still used today for the same purpose. You gotta love their ears!

7. Rottweilers

Rottweilers were developed in Germany to herd livestock and pull carts they are also used as search and rescue dogs and of course guard dogs (for good reason)

The Bulldog is a fine one, with their smushed in faces and the ever present drool they are loveable and of course the dog most used as mascots for all types of sports teams.

The Poodle comes from Germany as well, although most people would assume France, where they are called the Caniche, a super smart dog that you can make look very fancy!

Sensing a theme here? Yes another dog from Germany, they were developed to be herding dogs, but have since become great police and guard dogs, they're smart and loyal.

A French breed of comfort dog, it was bred as a ratter in rat infested 19th century Paris, they were so adorable they became a very popular pet, rats or no rats, people love the Frenchie most!

Bob is a native New Englander, growing up (sorta) in Maine where his love for radio started at a young age. While in high school he hosted radio shows on a local radio station, and he has never looked back. Bob joined the US Navy and served onboard the Sixth Fleet Flagship as a radio and TV host. After serving for 3 years, it was off to Emerson College in Boston. Bob hosted shows in Boston on WMEX, WVBF and WSSH in the 80’s and 90’s before heading to radio stations in Raleigh, NC, Manchester, NH, and New York City. Bob has been married for almost 25 years to Carolyn, a Woburn gal and they have 3 daughters, Nicole, Taylor, and Bridget. Bob and Carolyn are proud first-time grandparents to baby Caroline, who they plan to spoil every chance they get! “I started my career in New England and could not be happier to come back to Boston where I can root for all the Boston sports teams and eat lots of lobster rolls and clam chowder (okay not lots)… It is an honor to host the WROR morning show with LBF and wake up the World’s Greatest City!” Bob writes about recipes and restaurants, pop culture and trending topics.
