The Golden Bachelor is coming

He's 71 and looking for love and fun! If you're like me you may have grown tired of watching The Bachelor or The Bachelorette for a lot of reasons but mainly because it became the same old , same old. Now the Bachelor will be Old but not the same.

Now it's going old school with a 71 year old widower from Indiana named Gerry Turner.

Described in his ABC profile as "charming" and a "romantic," Turner wed his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1974. The couple was married for 43 years and welcomed two daughters, Angie and Jenny, and two granddaughters, Charlee and Payton. Unfortunately, Toni died of an illness in 2017.

"Six years after Toni’s passing and with the support of his family, Turner is ready to put himself out there and find a love that will stand the test of time in his golden years," a press release explains.

Here's why you should be here for it

I know my wife and I will be tuning in this fall when the show premiers because we have often thought it would be a great idea to find an person that has been around the block a few times and doesn't want to play the silly "reindeer games" that the younger contestants like to play. The cliques and the bullying probably won't be a factor with this gang. They don't want to fool around with their time. They are not looking to be instagram influencers or get a spin off as the next Bachelorette. Plus, they won't be doing as many goofy games, maybe they'll play "pickle ball" and the winner gets dinner with Gerry.

Speaking of dinner

We think these older contestants will prefer early dinners as opposed to the late nights that younger contestants prefer, and we're pretty sure the fantasy suite will have Werther's Original candy and bowl of viagra, okay maybe not, but fun to think about!

Five New England Restaurants Top Open Table’s 100 Most Romantic in America

Five New England Restaurants Top Open Table's 100 Most Romantic in America!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Galentine's Day or Palentine's Day, OpenTable announced the anticipated annual list of the 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in America!

And five New England spots topped the list!

Open Table analyzed more than 13 million US diner reviews and came up with the top 100 romantic restaurants in the country.

But hurry! The time to book Valentine's Day reservations is now!

Last year, more than half of Valentine's Day reservations were booked by February 7.

But diners seeking a table at one of the 100 Most Romantic Restaurants should plan to book earlier. In the past, the restaurants on this list booked up by February 1.

Other fun facts from Open Table's Top 100 Romantic Restaurants in the US?

The list spanned 27 states. And California took home the #1 spot, with 13 restaurants on the list. Arizona featured nine restaurants. Florida and Hawaii clock in at eight.

So what's the most romantic cuisine? While more than 20 different cuisines are spotlighted, diners equate romance with steakhouses, followed by seafood, American and Italian.

Other dining tip for Valentine's Day:

Consider dining outside of prime hours.

Last year, nearly half  of dinner reservations were from 6:00-7:59 p.m., while only a quarter were from 8:00 – 9:59 p.m. and one third from 4:00 – 5:59 p.m.

Consider earlier or later windows if you have a specific venue in mind," Open Table reported.

Make Valentine's Day a weekend affair.

In 2022, Saturday, February 12th was the single biggest dining day of the year. This year, expect Saturday, February 11th to see a similar boost, so try booking on Valentine's Day or the two days leading up to it if Saturday is a no-go.

Still no luck?

Set an availability alert for the chance to nab a table if one becomes available.
