There are famous people we all know are from Massachusetts – Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, etc. Then there are fictional characters we all know are from Massachusetts – pretty much everyone from Cheers, etc. And then there are the fictional characters that you may have never realized were fellow Bay Staters at all (ehem, Massholes) and that is the category we focus on today.

Here are 10 Fictional Characters You Didn’t Know Were From Massachusetts. And while we’re all “Hooray For Mass” did you know that THIS Massachusetts school produces more insanely wealthy people than any other school in America? Not that I should really celebrate that because… well… my bank account. OK let’s get to those fictional characters from Massachusetts before I get sadder and start spewing more of my sad secrets.

  • CAPTAIN AHAB

    Moby Dick’s arch-nemesis with the whale bone leg set sail on his quest for the big white whale out of Nantucket. I wonder if he was a fan of Nantucket’s Cisco Brewers. I kid.

  • LADY JAYE (G.I. JOE)

    Lady Jaye was a bad ass. I loved her as a G.I. Joe-loving child growing up. But one thing I never knew about her is that she’s a Masshole! Lady Jaye was born on Martha’s Vineyard.

    Speaking of my crushes growing up, Faith Lehare was introduced as a pretty main character during season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And just like the character she played, Eliza Dushku is also from Massachusetts.

    Sorry but I had to include this one. My kids were obsessed with the PBS Kids show Fetch With Ruff Ruffman. They actually still find it on random streaming services and re-binge it to this day. It was an amazing educational program (that I actually would have loved to work on professionally) based and produced out of Massachusetts.

    Another childhood-obsession of mine, like many, was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched the cartoon, I collected the toys, I cringed whenever the Rat King was on the screen. He had the disgusting power of controlling all the rats in the sewer with his mind. What I never knew is that the character was born and raised in Boston before moving to NYC where the rats are plentier to begin his nasty reign as king.

    If you’re a Grey’s Anatomy fan then Meredith Grey has likely been a part of your life for years. The character’s mom spent years working at Mass General and Meredith herself grew up in Massachusetts before moving across the country to Seattle where most of the series is based.

  • DOC (G.I. JOE)

    Doc was an awesome medic from G.I.Joe who actually got his medical degree from Harvard University so he is waaaaaaaaaayyyyy smarter than me. It’s always kind of hurtful when fictional characters are way smarter than you. But I always loved Doc. And I love him even more knowing he was born in Concord, MA.

    Who else is more prepared to take on all sorts of weird beings than a Masshole? We do it on the daily. So it makes sense that Fox Mulder from X-Files was from Massachusetts. Martha’s Vineyard to be exact.

    I need help on this one. I found a website claiming that Dilbert is from Massachusetts but after much research (and even enlisting the help of Chat GPT) I cannot confirm any connection between the comic character and the Bay State.
