The love continues to pour in from Friends fans. The world continues to mourn and remember the brilliant Matthew Perry who played Chandler on Friends. Tik Tok has jumped in with their favorite Matthew Perry moments.
The much loved star, who was propelled to global stardom after landing a role on “Friends,” died Saturday of an apparent drowning incident at his California home. He was 54.
This discovery is a shock to many that did not know of Perry's struggles with addictions. But it's even a BIGGER surprise to those of us that knew.
Perry Has Been Sober Since 2021
In 2022, Perry released his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing” sharing an in depth look of his struggles with drugs, and alcohol. It became a #1 best seller. Perry told the New York Times in October 2022 he was clean for 18 months. He reportedly spent "7 million trying to get sober." While that sounds like a lot, he made about $100,000,000 from Friends.
No Drugs Found
At this time, no foul play was suspected and no drugs, as in meth or fentanyl were found in his system, according to the New York Post:
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that investigators ran a less-in-depth test on the actor. It revealed he did not have fentanyl or meth in his system at the time of his death. More in-depth tests are currently being conducted as part of the toxicology, which can take months to establish an official cause of death.
Autopsy doctors have commented that with Perry's past habits, cardio arrest is not a surprise.
