Never Have I Ever? Nine Everyday Things People Don’t Do Anymore

OK, so there are a couple of things I’ve never done.

Jumped out of airplane.

Eaten at an Olive Garden.

Mowed a lawn.

But I have listened to a cassette tape. (Cassingles were the BEST).

Printed something at home.

Used a typewriter.

Wound up lost and had to – OMG – USE A MAP! (It’s very Dora the Explorer. I suggest people do it for fun and to get a vague idea where they are in the world. Christopher Columbus would BE SHOCKED AT OUR LACK OF AWARENESS!)

Yet, there’s a GROWING number of people who have NEVER done these things.

What sort of generation are we raising if they’ve never experienced the agony of dialing a number with a lot of zeros on a ROTATY PHONE?

I’ll tell you what kind of a generation. ONE THAT HAS NEVER SUFFERED.

Listen, I get it. Progress is progress.

Here Are Nine Everyday Things People Don’t Do Anymore.

(Which makes me sad for them and also sad for me, because this means I am ancient.)

  • 11% haven't bought a physical newspaper.

I know it’s old school, but there’s something about reading an actual newspaper that feels better than reading it online. Try it. You’ll feel like a grandfather, but you’ll be more informed!

  • 44% haven't written to a pen-pal.

This was BIG in the 70s and 80s. But now you can text. The sad part is “Beaches” wouldn’t exist without pen-pals!

  • 36% haven't sent a fax.

I just did because I had to deal with the IRS, which apparently thinks it’s still 1987. I had to download an app because we don’t even have one in our corporate office. GET IT TOGETHER IRS!

  • 19% haven't paid for something using a check

That’s funny, because I seem to ALWAYS be behind the one person writing a check in the checkout line at Shaw’s.
