This is a bucket list must! One day it is my dream to be standin’ on a corner in Winslow Arizona. It’s such a fine sight to see. Wait, where have I heard those familiar words? You know, it’s a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me. For me, these words never tire. They are the iconic lyrics written by Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne, for the smash hit, Take It Easy.

Standin’ On A Corner In Winslow Arizona, Is A Thing

Being on the radio each day, I learned something new, almost every day. Awhile back as I was playing The Eagles, Take It Easy. I asked the question: Is there really a corner in Winslow, Arizona? Who is standing on it.  I was deluged with social media, emails and messages.  Yes, standin’ on the corner in Winslow Arizona is a thing. It’s actually a park just off Route 66 in Winslow. Created in 1999 by an actual foundation called the Standin’ On A Corner Foundation. It was created as a tribute to Glenn Frey, his song, and to inspire tourism to Winslow.

The Park

The park corner features, a flatbed Ford, and a two story mural with the words, Winslow Arizona. On the street corner is a giant Route 66, logo painted on the street. After the sad and untimely death of Glenn Frey in 2016, they added a statue of his likeness, in his honor.

So, now that our bags are packed, before we head to Winslow, Arizona, what songs talk about OUR little corner of the world?

  • Dirty Water-The Standells

A must for every movie made about Boston! How lucky are we to have our own song about questionable water. Sorry “Charles.”

  • Please Come To Boston-Dave Loggins

This guy is actually the cousin of Kenny Loggins. It was hit in the 1970’s and played all over America on the radio. I believe this was the first major hit that mentioned Boston.

  • Rock & Roll Band-Boston

This is one of BEST tributes to our great city! Boston is mentioned in the first line! Hyannis is mentioned too!

  • Weekend In New England-Barry Manilow

Attention Fan-A-Lows. I’ll let you have your private moment. Enjoy. NOTE, Barry never actually says Weekend, In New England. But he does say, Time, In New England.

  • Shippin' Up The Boston-Dropkick Murphy's

Another great feature of our city. Locally made, national hit songs to celebrate drinking.

  • Boston-Augustana

A great song about Boston, from a bunch of guys from California. Lead singer Dan Layus, from the west coast came here for family during the holidays. He said: “Boston seemed like the farthest point, away from California.”

  • Boston-Kenny Chesney

This guy is from Tennessee, yet found a spot in his heart to sing about our little town, complete with a Red Sox mention. Sometimes, it’s important to see our backyard through the eyes of visitors.
