It seems as though millennials are tired of a lot of the things that boomers say.

A recent survey asked millennials what phrases they would like to retire most. We have put together the top eight most egregious sayings and phrases that are the most often used and most off putting. If you could care less, than you are using the expression wrong, and that bothers them too. It’s you Couldn’t Care Less!

These are tried and true sayings and phrases that have been used for in some cases hundreds of years.

When you get to be a Boomer’s age, you will find yourself using them as well, but not if millennials have anything to do with it. They save time and help you sum up what you meant to say in much fewer words. When you tell someone that it was meant to be, you mean to say, that it’s out of your hands and maybe there is a good reason for it happening

Most of these things still make sense, but perhaps have been used to the point of ad nauseam. And that’s why millennials would like boomers to stop using these phrases.

I believe we’re all guilty of using phrases as needed. They’re very useful when it comes to conversations. For instance, if somebody is having a bad day and they don’t understand why things are happening to them. A good phrase to use would be well it is what it is, so deal with it.

Regardless of why it is what it is, millennials would like boomers to retire these phrases

The survey listed a dozen or so that are either over used, miss used, make no sense or are just plain tired and are ready for retirement.

Here are the Top 8 phrases that millennials are wishing Boomers and perhaps everyone send to trash bin of retired sayings and phrases.

  • 8. Living The Dream

This is an expression that is typically used when someone is either feeling great about your current situation, or if you’re not feeling great about your current situation. Either way, millennials are over it and don’t care about your dreams apparently.

  • 7. Boys Will Be Boys

This is one is an old expression used as an umbrella explanation for anything a boy (man) does that there is really no good excuse for or reason, such as when boys decide it would be a swell idea to jump off the roof and into the swimming pool. Not smart, but boys will be boys!

  • 6. It Is What It Is

When you really don’t have much to say about a situation that might be out of your control, example, “wow, the price of eggs is crazy, but it is what it is”. For millennials they don’t believe that things are what they are and can change what it is.

  • 5. Pull Yourself Up By The Bootstraps

The phrase means to succeed without the help of someone else, for millennials it makes no sense, after all it’s physically impossible to pick yourself up by your bootstraps. The expression dates back to 1800’s when you actually had bootstraps to pull on.

  • 4. Welcome To The Real World

Millennials don’t like to be welcomed to the real world, because they feel like they’ve been in the “real world” their whole life, and when a Boomer uses the phrase, it’s probably after a complaint was lodged for whatever reason, say for instance, the amount of taxes taken out of their paycheck.

  • 3. Everything Happens For A Reason

This phrase assumes that their life is pre-ordained by a higher power, like God. Millennials are less likely to believe in that and don’t like to think that things happen for a reason, they prefer to think that sometimes things happen for no good reason.

  • 2. Money Can't Buy Happiness

Millennials don’t like this phrase for  a lot of reasons, they don’t like it when a Boomer says it because, they look pretty happy and why not? Their mortgage is probably close to being paid off and they might have a pretty happy life that money helped pay for. Plus. they’ve grown up watching the Kardashians life and they generally look pretty happy on their private jets.

  • 1. The Customer Is Always Right

Millennials have grown up being inundated with endless videos of customers (like airline customers) being very rude. They’ve seen people loose their minds at a fast food restaurant because they didn’t get enough fries in their bag. Let’s be honest, the customer is Not Always right, in fact they can be very wrong.
