It’s wedding season but things are changing.
I once used to dj/emcee at least 25 -35 weddings a year so I have seen a lot of wedding trends come and go. Back in the day most wedding receptions followed a very familiar pattern from the bridal party introductions, first dance, father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, cutting the cake etc.

When I first started in the wedding disc jockey business, I used to bring albums and 45 records to play and keep the party hopping with familiar tunes from Sinatra through Hip Hop. The reception had a very orderly line up that was to followed pretty much by the book.

These days brides and grooms want anything but the same old tried and true or tired and not true weddings. The days of the follow the routine are done. Originality is the name of the game and they don’t want to do the old traditions any longer. A survey of brides and grooms and newlyweds asking what a new rules for wedding receptions and what old rules can be broken. The list is pretty surprising and at the same time controversial.
What are the new wedding rules for 2023?
The survey respondents were asked to give their opinion on everything wedding related, from the time of season (spoiler alert, summer weddings are now a no-no) to who can wear white and who to invite. For instance, some think that you don’t need engagement parties any longer, your close friends should control the invite list not you, to the tradition of asking the bride and groom constantly to kiss for the crowd. They are over that!
