Home projects to continue through 2018!

When I bought my house last year, it took about a day before I realized the upstairs toilet 'ran' if I didn't flush it just right. So, no surprise it eventually failed altogether.

Now, I could reach my hand in the tank and manually flush but I've lived in enough places with 'sometimes' working toilets to know there are ways it can be rigged to work 'for now'. So I made a trip to the hardware store yesterday to see if I could find the same piece that broke (a small, round piece that looks like a (broken) ring). I couldn't.

After spending some time in the plumbing aisle (shout out Hanson Ace Hardware...I know you're listening) with one of the employees, I decided I'd give the flapper chain a try as the hook looked like it would fit in the top hole of the flushing arm and I figured I'd attach the chain portion to the bottom hole somehow with something.

One paper clip later, voila! I have a flushing commode....for now.

Hoping I can rig this "flapper chain" up somehow to fix my toilet.

This is attached to a chain...which might be why it's encased in plastic rendering it unable to get tangled in that chain and impossible to get out of the plastic unless you take a pair of scissors to it.

Who knew toilets had birthdays? This one is apparently very old (sorry nearly 40 year olds...I meant 'for a toilet').

Well. there it is. The paper clip through the flapper chain hook. Seems to work. It'll have to do until I get the funds to have it properly fixed...or a buy new one (heated seat with bidet please).
