So, here it it…the prickly pear!

Do you like to satisfy your curiosity when it comes to foods you've never had? I sure do! Especially fruits and desserts!

I don't think I've ever bought a prickly pear, I can't recall ever buying one or trying one (maybe when I taste it, I'll remember!).

But when I saw them at the grocery store over the weekend, I had to have one! Then of course I realized I wasn't exactly sure how to eat a prickly pear so I youtubed it and voila!

'How to eat a prickly pear, aka cactus fruit and/or cactus fig'!

Let's do it

I'm following the instructions on the youtube video (how did we ever manage without youtube!)

So, here it it...the prickly pear!

Doesn't it kinda look like a red potato?

The video says to cut off the ends so off they go! It sliced quite easily.

The video then said to make a cut in the peeling and....

....just like it did in the instructional video, the peeling came right off!

pear 6

There it is! The freshly peeled prickly pear, ready to slice into!

pear 7

I'm not sure how to tell if a prickly pear is ripe or not. It's soft but not overly juicy? Big seeds (now I can grow my own!)

Here goes! Very good. Not too sweet, kind of "clean" tasting. I like it! And, no. I don't think I've ever had one! But I'd definitely buy another one...or two!
