A Milford, Massachusetts, nonprofit is sending Girl Scout cookies to U.S. service members deployed overseas as part of its ongoing mission to support troops.

Thanks To Yanks, a community-based charity founded by Michael Shain in 2006, regularly hosts events throughout the year to assist military families and veterans. According to a Patch of Milford report, Shain, Thanks To Yanks founder and president, coordinated the shipment of cookies to military service members.

"A package from home, especially Girl Scout cookies, reminds those who serve they are appreciated and not forgotten," Shain told the Patch.

Besides Girl Scout cookies, the organization has performed other outreach efforts. In March, Thanks To Yanks partnered with a local bank to host a free magic show for the children and grandchildren of service members. Last fall, it collected items for homeless veterans and support care package efforts through collaborations with local businesses as part of its Imperial Hope for Heroes Campaign.

Thanks to Yanks also organized a donation drive with the Red Heat Tavern in Milford to assemble care packages for a Massachusetts National Guard unit.

Residents can connect with Thanks To Yanks via its Facebook page to receive news and information and support its initiatives.
