Kowloon Restaurant To Downsize, Open New Tiki Spot on Revere Beach

Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus, Massachusetts, plans to downsize its original location as its Route 1 lot is redeveloped, while launching a new satellite spot on the waterfront at Revere Beach called Kowloon Tiki on the Beach.

Owner Bobby Wong spoke with NBC10 Boston about the restaurant's 75th anniversary, which the staff celebrated last year, and its outlook on the future.

"As we get older, we have to think of the next step," Wong said. "We're thinking ahead."

He acknowledges that the next generation in the family-owned business is pursuing other careers, such as attorneys and doctors, and that a plan is necessary to carry the business into the future.

Wong confirmed that Kowloon Tiki on the Beach is targeted to open by May. It will offer a tropical, beachside experience that blends elements of the original Saugus restaurant within a seaside setting.

Wong explained he is an "addict" when it comes to the restaurant business. While he didn't intend to open another location, he took advantage of the opportunity when it arose.
