A recent ranking from USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards has named a Massachusetts community one of the best in the U.S. Northeast.

In its best small town awards that consider coastal, historic, and regional small towns across the country, Provincetown ranked seventh in the best U.S. Northeast small towns category.

Here's what USA TODAY had to say about the charms of Provincetown:

"Located on the northern tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown, Massachusetts, was the site of the Mayflower's first landing in 1620 (yes, even before Plymouth), and Provincetown celebrates its history through the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum. A seaside town renowned for its scenic beaches, whale watching, and LGBTQ-friendly attitude, Provincetown has a charming downtown district with diverse dining and independent boutiques.

"It's also home to America's oldest continuous arts colony and has numerous art galleries, museums, and theaters, including the Provincetown Theater, known as the birthplace of American theater."

According to the Cape Cod Times, visitors to Cape Cod during the summer can enjoy beaches, dunes, and biking or walking trails along the Cape Cod National Seashore. This National Park Service site stretches across 90% of the town.

USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards recognize the best attractions and destinations in travel, food, and lifestyle. After being nominated by industry experts, the Readers' Choice Awards winners are chosen through public voting.
