Thousands snapped up $80 round‑trip MBTA train tickets from Boston to Foxboro Station for FIFA World Cup games. More than 15,000 tickets sold within hours of going on sale, despite some glitches with the ticketing system.

According to an NBC10 Boston report, tickets for the first five games at Gillette Stadium — referred to as Boston Stadium for the soccer tournament — went on sale at 11 a.m. on the MBTA's mTicket app. Since the train is designated specifically for people traveling to see the games, the app required users to prove they had tickets. The MBTA's Commuter Rail X account responded to more than a dozen people who had problems securing tickets.

MBTA officials acknowledged issues with the mTicket app and advised affected customers to call customer service and retry their purchases. Officials stated that the problem had been resolved for those affected.

NBC10 spoke with Gianni Sellers, who faced issues during the purchase process but ultimately secured tickets after the delay. “I can only imagine getting an Uber or Lyft to Foxboro Stadium, Boston Stadium, from South Station is going to be outrageous,” he said.

While fans are facing frustrations getting to the games, the teams participating have already begun scouting their home bases for the matches. According to NBC10, Bentley University will host France's national football team. The players will be using Bentley Arena and the soccer field for practices. The French players will be on campus for their first practice on June 11.
