Boston Marathon Safety Alert: Police Urge Students To Use Caution, Common Sense

The Boston Police Department is urging the city's college students to prioritize safety ahead of the 130th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20.

In a public letter, Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox asked students to report suspicious activity along the route. He said that increased patrols are being planned throughout the Boston Marathon corridor.

According to a NewsCenter 5 WCVB report, students are advised to avoid public drinking and marijuana use, monitor their mobile devices closely, and stay off the marathon course to reduce risk.

"If you don't, your name will be shared with your school's dean of students," Commissioner Cox said in his letter.
