The town of Waltham, Massachusetts, will restore two-way traffic on Moody Street this spring and summer to make it easier for visitors to support downtown businesses.

According to a Patch of Waltham report, the city's Traffic Commission voted to approve using sidewalks and parking lanes in front of businesses for outdoor dining or retail uses. This extension runs from May 22 to Sept. 7.

Businesses must submit formal applications to secure permission to use sidewalk and parking lane spaces. The city offers a detailed PDF explaining the permit process to place tables and chairs on sidewalks.

As noted by the Patch, the Moody Street initiative has long been a topic of discussion among city lawmakers, reflecting concerns about downtown commerce and infrastructure.
