Five weeks after shuttering its doors, the Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Revere, Massachusetts, has reopened after the general manager purchased the location.
According to a CBS Boston report, the pizza chain, known for its deep-dish pizza, closed four locations throughout New England in January: Dedham, Braintree, Revere, and Warwick, Rhode Island. Uno Pizzeria's Attleboro location closed its doors only a few weeks ago.
During its closure, the restaurant underwent a major renovation, with state-of-the-art media, lighting, and a refreshed new look.
"When it closed, my wife was the general manager. We had the opportunity to buy the franchise, and we just jumped at that chance. Because we love our staff, and we wanted to keep the jobs and community together here," Dee Dee Edmondson-Koram said in a statement to CBS Boston.
All former employees have returned, including longtime staff, such as a 20-year employee who began as a host three years ago.
Longtime customers and community members praised the restaurant's reopening.
"When I found out they were closing doors, my heart felt heavy. We like the hospitality. The manager is very, very kind to us, and the food is just phenomenal. It's comfort food," said Mike Barker, who was among the first customers to return.
Today, Uno Pizzeria has only five locations left in Massachusetts, including Bellingham, Sturbridge, Worcester, Springfield, and the reopened Revere establishment.
